Jamnagar

Nawanagar (Jamnagar) is located in the western area of India (Gujrat) now well known as jamnagar. The state had a pearl fishery and much of its wealth came from this. Nawanagar is most famous for its famous son and ruler Jam Saheb Ranjitsinghi, who is still regarded as being one of the all time greats of cricket. Ranjitsinghi in England in 1892. He played for England and Sussex for five years during which time he showed good form and earned a call up to the England team. In 1906 he succeeded his father as Jam Saheb of Nawanagar. Ranjitsinghi died in 1933.

The city was built up substantially by Maharaja Kumar Shri Ranjitsinhji Jamnagar has shot to prominence as Reliance Industries, India's largest private company established the world's largest refinery near Moti Khavdi village. It is also home to Essar Oil, another important oil refinery of India.

 

How to reach Jamnagar

By plane : Jamnagar Airport 10 km. The Jamnagar airport has daily flights connecting it with Mumbai. airlines from jamnagar generaly indian air lines and air deccan. By train : Jamnagar Railway Station is well connected with Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Delhi, Calcutta,Gorakhpur,Varanasi and other important cities of India through regular trains. The Saurashtra Mail and the Saurashtra Express are the popular trains that run between Jamnagar and Mumbai. Inter City Train Between Jamnagar and Ahmedabad leaves in the early morning. There are also trains to Dwarka. By bus : Jamnagar has a well-established road link to various cities of Gujarat like Rajkot, Porbundar, Bhuj, Bhavnagar, Ahmedabad, Baroda and Surat. ST buses go hourly to Rajkot and every 30 minutes to Junagadh; other buses go to Dwarka, Porbandar, Bhuj and Ahemdabad and other places of Gujarat.

Climate

The climate of Jamnagar district is generally pleasant. The summer season extends from March to June, with day time temperature reaching to 42C.The monsoons are from July to September. Winter season sets in during October and extends till February. In association with cyclonic storms or depressions in the Arabian Sea in the post monsoon months and to a lesser extent in May and June, the district experiences strong winds and widespread rain.

Marine National Park


Gujarat has the distinction of creating the country's first Marine National Park spread over an area of nearly 458 sq.kms in the Gulf of Kutch. 30 km. from jamnagar.

 

 




nawanagar Bhujia Kotha just near by to the Lake. Lakhota Fort is Jamnagar's Museum and its terraces display a fine collection of sculpture that spans from a period of the 9th Century to the 18th Century. The Bhujia Kotha is Jamnagar's arsenal. One of its most interesting sights is an old well, the water of which can be drawn by blowing into a small hole in the floor.
